Seal Out Decay!

Teeth develop with different characteristics, one of them being the pits and fissures that form on the chewing surface of the teeth. When grooves are deep, decay gets trapped in and that can cause decay. It is also very difficult for the toothbrush to get into those grooves and clean them out. By having sealants placed, these grooves become filled and the toothbrush has an easier way to clean the tooth.

What are sealants? Sealants are a plastic material that are placed to fill up the pits and fissures in a tooth. Sealants can last a couple of years as long as they stay intact to the tooth, at regular cleanings the sealants will be examined and will be redone if necessary.

Sealants do not take long to do, its a simple procedure that usually requires no anesthetic. The grooves are cleaned out and a caries indicator dye is applied to the tooth to make sure that the tooth is clear of any present decay. the tooth is then filled with a material which then seals up the grooves of the teeth. Sealants are preventative and are placed on the majority of children and teens.
